Standing alone in the One-Day Tournament calendar, this annual Singles event, now in its eighth year, brings a different challenge from our usual doubles events, and taking their cue from the weather, the players produced some sparkling play for the onlookers. The U-10 Mini Green events ended with a win in the Boys section for Bramhall Lane player Max Hanson, and success in the Girls for Louise Ainscow from the Northern. Home club players Michael Armstrong and Rebecca Woodcock were runners-up in their respective U-10 events. In the U-12 Boys and Girls events brother and sister Ross and Rona Mackenzie carried all before them with runners-up Sam Hanson (Bramhall Lane) and Rachel Ainscow, sister to Louise, having to give best after much gallant effort. In the days best attended section, the Boys U-15 competition, the day's soaring temperatures caused much perspiration to be shed before Kieran Cronin (Bramhall Lane) prevailed over Connor Keohane of the Brooklands club, whilst in the U-18 Boys event Matthew Pearsall from Brabyns, Marple won from newcomer James Anderson of the Heyes Grove club in Timperley. Many thanks are due to the Bramhall Lane Club for their hospitality and the generous provision of their excellent facilities!
