ist1_545958_tennis_net41 players took to the courts at Bramhall Lane on Saturday 28 July and, after a brief flirtation with rain at the outset, were blessed with glorious sunshine for the afternoon!

Standing alone in our One Day Tournament Calendar, this annual singles event brings a different challenge to our usual doubles events and how well the players responded with excellent tennis to entertain the crowd!

New this year was an U10 Mini Green event - and what a success it was with Josh Glover taking the top prize on his home turf from runner up Luke Skade who had made the short journey from Bramhall Queensgate!

In the day's other events, Gaby McKeever topped the U12 Girls from runner up Jessica Armstrong (both of Bramhall Lane) and Connor Moran (Prestbury) took top honours in the U12 Boys over runner up Curtis Pridding (Northern).

The U15 section saw Claire Wallace at the top of the Girls group, closely followed by Jayne Wallace (both Bramhall Lane). In the Boys, Sam Waterhouse (Greave) came through a tough competition to just edge out Kieran Cronin (Bramhall Lane) in a tight final that kept the crowd involved until the final point of the deciding tie break!

Thanks are due to the Bramhall Lane Club for their hospitality and the provision of their excellent facilities!

ist1_592352_game_overA record entry of 46 players arrived at Sale in optimistic mood and for the first couple of hours everything was going to plan - then came the rain and the latter stages of the Tournament were completed in a downpour!

The U18 event saw Matt McNulty and Matt Pearsall (Mellor) overcome the strong challenge of Greave pairing John Abbott and Sam Waterhouse.

In the U15s Kieran Cronin and Connor Moran (Bramhall Lane/Prestbury) took top honours over Stephen Percy and Luke Taylor (Didsbury) and in the day's top final Brooklands' George Fleming and George McKie just edged Prashant Duggal and James Donnelly (Northern) into second place in a tight match.

A special mention is due for the Albert team of Ruby Wood and Jessica Helliar who beat two pairs of boys in the U12 Round Robin stage before losing in the semi finals to the eventual winners! Well done girls!

Well done to all the players for competing so well in the rain! A big thanks too to Alex and her Sale colleagues, particularly in the Catering Department!

We look forward to seeing you all at the next One Day event - a singles tournament on Saturday 28 July for U15s, U12s and U10s at Bramhall Lane LTC - click on 'Tournaments' for more details.

ist1_558213_tennis_ball_inside_lineA record entry for the event of 58 players brought Knutsford to life last Sunday, filling all seven courts with some inspiring tennis!

The main events for the Knutsford Guardian Trophies were the Boys and Girls Under 18s. After the round robin matches were completed the Boys final saw Sam Waterhouse and John Abbott from Greave LTC hold off a spirited revival from the Davenport pairing of Anthony Boyle and Joe McWilliams.

The Girls event (combined U18 and U15) concluded with Sally Lynn and Charlotte Sykes (Ryecroft Park/Davenport) retaining the trophy for a second year with a final win over Charlotte Bailey and Lauren Hepburn (Bramhall Lane/Hale Barns).

Some excellent tennis in a strong Boys U15 competition took Chris Philpott and Jack Hellier (West Heaton/Didsbury) to victory over the Didsbury pairing of Luke Taylor and Steven Percy in an entertaining final.

In the U12s, Knutsford's Andrew Philips and Ben Cashmoor couldn't quite overcome the power of Prestbury pair Tom Dale and Connor Moran who took the top prize.

A special request to all you Under 12 girls out there - come and play some fun competitive tennis!  At Knutsford we only had one team - Chloe Turnbull and Elle Rogers from Davenport - they battled well against the boys but would much prefer to play in a proper girls event!

Thanks are due to the Knutsford club for hosting the event and to the Senior Referee, Sally Archer and the other JNECL officials and helpers who, as usual, managed the event, and their stress levels, to a successful conclusion!

Finally, a big thank you to all at the Knutsford Guardian for their superb continuing support and sponsorship of this event! For pictures from Knutsford, click on the links!

ist1_209823_fuzz_ball_ii11 mixed doubles pairs descended on West Heaton today and spectators were treated to some sparkling tennis to match the glorious weather!

In the U12 division, the local pairing of Cian Rennie-May and Lucy Pilling took the winners trophies with fellow West Heaton members Robin Burney-O'Dowd and Rebecca Hewitt in second place.

The U15s saw Keiran Cronin and Maisie Billson (Bramhall Lane/David Lloyd) heading the group over runners up Andrew Hinds and Vicky Law (Heyes Lane).

A top class field in the U18s competed for the Mike Hattan Trophy. With two victories each in the round robin group matches, the pairings of last year's winners from the home club, Will Archer and Emma Cowan and Davenport's Anthony Boyle and Charlotte Sykes met in the day's last match with the Davenport pair coming through with a 6/3 win to take the trophy.

Thanks as usual to Alison Pilling, Janet Cowan and the West Heaton team, not only for providing fantastic weather but also for exceptional catering and hospitality!

Looking forward to seeing everyone again next Sunday at Knutsford!

ist1_507470_tennis_03The highlight of what eventually (after a rather chilly start!) became a beautiful sunny day at Ryecroft Park was a competitive U15 Boys event - a top quality final saw David Ashcroft and Lucas Taylor (Lindow) prevail over the Bowdon pairing of Oscar Bamford and Nick Howarth.

Kieran Cronin (Bramhall Lane) and Connor Moran (Prestbury) took the U12 prize over Ryecroft's

 Faris McGrath and Ry Webster.

In the U18's division, West Heaton's William Archer and Daniel Livingstone just edged out the Davenport/Ryecroft pairing of Charlotte Sykes and Sally Lynn.

Thanks are due to the ladies of Ryecroft for hosting our event and providing excellent catering facilities in their temporary accomodation! Thank you Julie and Debbie!

Whilst a good day was had by all, entries at U12 and U18 level were disappointing so make sure you all grab a partner and get to the next event - mixed doubles at West Heaton on Saturday 9 June from 9.45am!
